Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have stressed the importance of dialogue among all those involved in refugee affairs.
They believe it can help address governance challenges faced by asylum seekers nationwide, while also ensuring accountability.
This came out at the recent Multi-Stakeholder Policy Dialogue on Refugee Governance in Lilongwe.
Charles Kajoloweka, Executive Director of the Youth and Society Organisation, highlighted the role of policies in addressing challenges faced by refugees such as property loss during relocations, prolonged stay in transit shelters and delays in acquiring refugee status.
The dialogue brought together representatives from Dzaleka Refugee Camp, the Department of Refugees, CSOs, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Malawi Police Service.
The aim was to explore sustainable solutions to various issues affecting the security, healthcare, and general welfare of refugees in the country.
