Dedza Secondary School is this year’s overall winner of the 2024 National Secondary Schools’ Science and Innovation Fair, edging out 35 other schools.
With its innovation of a simple projector, the school claimed K1.1 million first prize during an awards ceremony presided over by Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola Mdooko on Tuesday at Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu District.
Chayamba Open and New Hope Academy shared spoils at number two while Namphungu Community Day Secondary School grabbed position three with its innovation, an automated irrigation system.
Completing the list of overall winners are Chankhomi and Chigoneka CDDSs who created a fire alert system and a water pump, respectively.
Mdooka said this year’s innovations are impressive and give hope for a bright future for science and technology which is key in achieving the 2063 aspirations.
Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority, National Commission for Science and Technology, Press Trust Lab Enterprises and others sponsored the fair which was conducted under the theme ‘Harnessing science for sustainable development: shaping Malawi’s future towards Vision 2063 and beyond’.
