Culture, heritage conference slated for December

Ministry of Local Government Unity and Culture says the National Conference for the Creative and Heritage Industry, slated for next month, will address critical issues relevant in the sector and promote its growth.

Deputy Minister, Owen Chomanika, said this at a briefing in Lilongwe where he announced that the conference will take place on 3rd and 4th December, 2024.

He added that the conference will help to ensure the sector is safeguarded as it aims to operationalise the National Arts and Heritage Act and familiarise all critical stakeholders with the National Arts and Heritage Promotion Fund, and the Arts and Heritage Policy, among others.

Acting Deputy Executive Secretary for UNESCO Commission, David Mulera, said their expectation is that the conference will bring programmes that will support culture and heritage in Malawi and ensure all those actively involved receive relevant support as well as funding for their ideas, among others.

The conference is under the theme “Empowering Malawi’s creative and heritage industries for sustainable development”.
