Project Facilitator of the Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works (CS-EPWP) for Ntchisi District, Irene Chilombo, has urged participants under the programme to invest some of their wages in small scale economic activities.
Chilombo said this on the sidelines of wage payment exercise of the fourth phase.
She said much as the CS-EPWP aims at addressing climate change woes, the participants also need to benefit through a fairly stable economic livelihood which can be achieved through small scale investments.
One of the participants, Memory Mpotachamba of Mpherere Catchment Area, concurred with Chilombo, saying she was a living testimony of economic stability through smallscale investments from the wages.
“From my K48,000 wage payment, I have managed to save K100,000 through my village loans and savings accounts. I have plans of using the money saved to venture into selling goat meat and I am hoping to pay school fees for my three children when they get to secondary school,” she said.
CSEPW is being implemented by the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC) with funding from the World Bank and Multi-Donor Trust Fund and Ntchisi has 18, 500 participants working in 19 catchment areas.
