Children’s Parliament reconvened on Thursday in Nkhoma, Lilongwe with a call to Government and stakeholders to step up efforts towards eradicating child marriages in the country.
Speaker of the House, Seleshtna Steven said the vice is disruptive to their education.
“A lot of children are dropping out of school and this is affecting their future,” said Seleshtina.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Welfare Savel Kafwafwa has assured the children that their concerns will be presented to Parliament.
Statistics from World Vision Malawi indicate that 73 children in Nkhoma have been withdrawn from child marriages since June, 2022.
The meeting attracted child Parliamentarians from Nkhoma, Chilenga and Chigodi in the district.
