President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will on Monday visit flood victims in Karonga District.
Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, has announced that Chakwera will start by visiting Vilaule, Mwenitete and Kambwe Camps at Rukuru Ward in the area of Paramount Chief Kyungu.
Last week, Khumbo Mkandawire, the acting Director of Planning and Development (DPD) for the district’s council, disclosed that about 911 households in the area were affected after North Rukuru River flooded due to heavy rains.
President Chakwera will thereafter inspect the Karonga Water Project, which the Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) says will draw water from Lake Malawi and it will abstract 1.3 million litres of water per hour for treatment then distribute it to Water Board Customers.

The project is worth $26.7 million (about K44 billion) and it is also expected to boost the capacity of potable water supply in Karonga Town and surrounding areas.
Later, Chakwera will tour Nthola Illola Irrigations Scheme and its Rice factory then wind up the tour at Wovwe Irrigation Scheme.
