President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has inspected a number of pavilions at the Bingu International Convention Centre where he is opening the mining investment forum.
He was welcomed by Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima and Minister of Mining Monica Chang’anamuno, among other delegates.
The pavilions which the Malawi leader has toured have been mounted by different stakeholders in the mining sector.
Among key speakers at the forum are Secretary General for the Africa Minerals Strategy Group and South Sudan’s Minister of Mining, Martin Gama Abucha.
As of 2020, mining has been contributing about 1 percent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product and government intends to scale it up to 10 percent by 2030.
