Vice President Justice Dr Jane Ansah has commended the outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, Yoichi Oya, for his outstanding contribution to fostering strong bilateral relations between Malawi and Japan.
Justice Ansah also encouraged Ambassador Oya to remain Malawi’s ambassador wherever he goes and always champion Malawi’s interests.
She was speaking in Lilongwe when the outgoing Ambassador paid a courtesy call on her to bid farewell following the conclusion of his three-year tour of duty in Malawi.
The Vice President further said Ambassador Oya has played a pivotal role in strengthening Malawi-Japan bilateral relations, supporting Malawi’s inclusive and sustainable socioeconomic development.
She acknowledged Japan’s financial assistance to Malawi, including grants and loans, towards the country’s economic growth and poverty reduction efforts.
Dr Ansah outlined some Japanese-funded infrastructure projects, including the newly constructed Lilongwe bridge, which said, has reduced traffic congestion and eased connectivity.
Japan also supports Malawi’s agricultural sector through technical cooperation and investment, helping to improve food security and promote economic growth.
The Japanese government also provides scholarships and educational resources to Malawian students, promoting cultural exchange and human resource development.
Ambassador Oya expressed his deep affection for Malawi, describing it as his second home. He expressed optimism for continued collaboration between the two countries.
